Rinicom Collaborates with Ribble Steam Railway on Platform Safety Innovation

A big thank you to Ribble Steam Railway & Museum in Preston for the warm welcome and generous time spent showing our team around the station and heritage collection. (ribblesteam.org.uk) It was inspiring to see first‑hand how a heritage railway operates, from the workshops to the platform, and get a real sense of the blend of tradition, engineering, and visitor experience that makes their work special.

Today’s visit marks a milestone as we progress our “Yellow Line” project, funded by Innovate UK under the UK rail innovation programme. This one‑of‑a‑kind initiative brings together bespoke AI, computer‑vision, and detection systems to enhance passenger safety at railway platforms. Our aim is to reliably detect when someone crosses the yellow line and to trigger an announcement in real time, supporting both heritage and main‑line operators alike.

We are working with heritage railways like Ribble to perform real-life demonstrations of the system and to donate the test technology. This collaboration ensures that our solutions are tested in practical, operational environments while giving something valuable back to the heritage railway community.

Once again, huge thanks to the Ribble team for their hospitality and collaboration. We look forward to working closely with you and translating today’s learning into a best‑in‑class safety solution for passengers everywhere.
