Preparedness in Action: CBRNE Training at UZ Brussel

From 28–30 April, UZ Brussel hosted an intensive, three-day CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive) incident training course at their Emergency Department — combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on simulation to strengthen real-world readiness.

Doctors, nurses, security services, and tech innovators trained side by side in high-stakes, realistic scenarios: from suspected Ebola cases to explosions in a drug lab requiring simultaneous decontamination.

As a proud technology partner of the European ESCORT project, Rinicom supported the integration of innovative solutions in the training, including:

  • Real-time situational awareness via AR glasses (Realwear)
  • Remote patient monitoring using in-ear sensors from Cosinuss
  • A video wall for dynamic coordination and information flow

These tools were tested under real emergency conditions to support medical teams in high-risk environments — improving efficiency, safety, and care delivery.

💬 Prof. Dr. Ives Hubloue: “By training together and testing innovative technologies, we increase our preparedness to act effectively and safely in the event of CBRNE incidents. In this way, we protect our healthcare providers and patients.”

📖 As UZ Brussel notes: “CBRNE stands for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive incidents. Doctors and nurses trained together with experts and security services in realistic scenarios to be ready for this type of emergency.”
